Many people do not realize the importance of regular dental care. It is not only needed to maintain the health of your teeth, but also your overall health. When you care for your teeth and seek proper treatment, you are ensuring that you have strong teeth, healthy gums, and an attractive smile for the rest of your life. If you are in need of a thorough dental visit, we can help.
What to Expect During an Appointment
When a new patient first enters our office, we will discuss his or her dental history and any concerns the patient has regarding the teeth or gums. After this conversation, we will thoroughly clean the patient’s teeth. Using specialized tools, we will remove any plaque build-up on the teeth and around the gum line. The cleaning will make it difficult for future plaque to latch onto the smooth surface. We will use an abrasive special paste to remove surface stains and any leftover grime.
Once we complete the dental cleaning, we will feel around the neck and head to ensure there are no swollen lymph nodes are swollen; which indicates illness. Finally, we will gently prod each tooth with a long, metal tool that will help us determine if there are any weak spots in the teeth. We will then check for discoloring, chips, and cracks on the teeth as well as gum discoloration, bleeding or swelling.
Preventive methods are best
A significant benefit of regular dental care is that it allows us to identify developing cavities in the early stages. We can then use preventative methods to stop the cavity from forming any further and preventing decay. Filling cavities and fixing other dental issues can increase the longevity of one’s teeth. Keeping as many of the natural teeth as possible is important because it will prevent your jawline from contouring as it shifts in to fill in the space of a missing tooth.
If the other teeth shift as a result of tooth loss, or the patient loses more than one tooth, the patient can experience discomfort. Missing adult teeth can also lead to an undesirable appearance.
Preventing Oral Health Problems
Many people do not realize that oral cancer is not just reserved for people with an unhealthy lifestyle. Anyone can get oral cancer that can spread to the rest of your body if left undetected and untreated. If one receives regular dental care, then we will look for the first signs of oral cancer. If we identify signs of oral cancer, we will offer guidance on what the next steps for the patient are going to be.
Other common problems that may occur without regular dental care are loose teeth, oral discomfort, and a variety of gum diseases including the debilitating periodontal disease. However, receiving regular dental care from our office will help you to avoid any unnecessary dental complications in the future.
