What You Need to Know About Laser Gum Treatment

We provide a laser gum treatment that can keep your teeth and gums healthy. This is an innovative and modern approach to dental care that uses lasers instead of traditional metal dental tools. While the old ways work, they are no longer the best solution. Our patients can stay more comfortable during their gum treatment, thanks to the use of lasers. We are pleased to use this modern solution because it benefits our patients.

Why would I need a gum treatment?
If you are showing signs of gum disease, it is important to treat it right away. Gum disease can develop when bacteria gets in between your gums and your teeth. As it sits there, your gums can become inflamed, bleed, and hurt. This is mostly uncomfortable but can become painful if left untreated.

How are lasers used?
In the initial stages of gum disease, we can treat it by performing a deep cleaning and removing the bacteria from underneath your gums. This is typically done by using metal dental tools to scrape the bacteria. As a result, many people complain of discomfort and may experience swelling and bleeding. Fortunately, laser gum treatment delivers the same results without the pain or swelling. Lasers are used to zap the bacteria and kill it without creating any discomfort. This is a far better way to eliminate gum disease, and once the bacteria are gone, your gums can start to heal themselves naturally.

Benefits of Lasers
In addition to being able to kill the bacteria, lasers are also able to help your gums to heal faster. If the gums become irritated and bleed during the procedure, lasers can be used to help stop the bleeding. They are an excellent tool for helping your gums to heal faster so that you can feel better right away, instead of waiting for several days.

Stages of Gum Disease
If the treatment is conducted right away, your gums will start to heal, and the symptoms will be reversed. If, however, the bacteria remain underneath the gums, the gums can start to recede and pockets may be created in the gum tissue. This will cause your teeth and nerves to be exposed and put them at risk for an infection.  In fact, some people even experience bone loss as a result. Laser gum treatment can be used to treat advanced stages of gum disease in combination with a gum graft procedure.

As a local dentist, our goal is to keep you in optimal oral health. By performing regular teeth cleanings, we can help you to avoid cavities and gum disease. It is easier to prevent problems than to treat them after the fact. By brushing and flossing throughout the day, you can help keep your gums healthy and for an extra measure, you can follow up with an antiseptic mouthwash. If gum disease does develop, schedule a laser gum treatment so that your teeth and gums can stay healthy and pain-free.
